August is National Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month

What is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) anyway? The Muscular Dystrophy Association says "Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement." Getting the diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy can be scary. What does it mean? Where do you go from here? Families of SMA is a great place to start. It is a network of families, doctors and other professional who can answer questions and lend support.
